Li-Kan Headquarters & Factory Building

Prologue

This project signifies not only the developer’s business expansion but also a multifaceted experiment in architecture. As the building is to be used both as a space of industrial production and as a home, the main design concern was to find the balance between working and living. The cold monotonous style of industrial building has been replaced with a fusion of work and life.

Longing

Dream Land

The metaphor of the deck of a ship is the centering point of the design. It symbolizes the steady progress and strong sail of the developer. To reinforce the image of sailing, the extended floor plan of the office is shaped like a mast with a large steel column and cables. The main office, representing the bridge of the deck, is located on the third floor as the command center of the business.

Imagery

Illuminated Form

This project provides an alternative to its existing industrial surroundings. The building sits as an illuminated form structured by steel and glass curtain walls. To avoid direct sunlight, part of the eastern main entrance is extended diagonally upwards with the support of steel cables and levels. This not only reduces the direct sunlight but also reinforces the imagery of cabin and sail.

Materials

Peflecting Industry Characteristics

As the production function of the factory is the shaping and cutting of steel, steel has been used to structure the building. This clean and sharp material is combined with glass showcasing the tension of the structure and reflecting the advance of modern building technology.
