Shining Zen Style

Origins

After the devastating 921 earthquake, the local real estate market was challenged with doubts concerning the construction of tall buildings. Thus villas were adapted as the main style of residential architecture. We have attempted to push this style of housing further in terms of functionality and design. We have presented new ideas such as the artificial base and mixing residential and commercial spaces in one structure. We have also presented an alternative to the traditional gabled roof.

Architecture

The form of the diamond is referenced through the precision of its geometry. This is manifested through the use of a steel frame with glass walls. More importantly, the clarity, elegance and strength of the diamond, reflects the needs and desires of its residents.

Materials

Through the interplay of materials and components, we gain a sense of our bodies moving though space. Wooden guardrails delineate the boundary of the structure. These guardrails are supported from behind by steel giving the impression of material sensation supported by hidden technology. The warmth of wood is contrasted to the coldness of steel and the elusiveness of glass. From a conceptual perspective, material and spatial sensation has been blended with rational thought. Layers of aesthetic values are conveyed through the dynamic interplay of transparency, solidity, lightness and weight.
